Change Your World - Quest 2

Hey people! We have just completed Change Your World Quest 2. CONGRATULATIONS! =]
Our first activity was to unlock the secret code by following the instructions given in a sheet of paper.

Before the instructions; there was a short poem which says:

Hello young friend, the Chosen One,

This map is a treasure compared to none,

It's up to you to unlock the secret,

A world changer you'll be, when this journey is done.

Stray not from your path, despite temptations aplently,

Vertical or horizontal moves will ensure your safety.

Take one box per step, patience is the key,

Persevere in one continuous journey, and change you will see.

We dilligently solved and my group was the first to finish decoding the "quote".

COMMIT 2 ACT & BUILD.

After that short and brief activity, we watched several videos (including the one featuring the 1 A.M band and the CYW tour!) on 3 MAJOR ISSUES in the world. I wrote down the stats yesterday. Here it is :)

Sex trafficking - 2.5 million victims, it has been tolerated and growing, youths ranging from ages 18-24. Prostitution.. SOBS!

Modern slavery - there are 27 million slaves in this world! Ouch, hearing it hurts. Average cost of a slave is $90. 211 million children are slaves (ages 5-14) around the world. They are DEPRIVED of a proper education.

Illegal treatment - Estimated, about 100,000 refugees, asylum seekers...they're called illegals meaning, they come into the country illegally. Most of them are victimized, abused, deported, trafficked.. they're literally in a "torture chamber" 24/7!

All that's necessary for the triumph of evil is that good man do nothing.

Questions I encourage you to reflect on!

-How would these awareness change the way you live?

-What kind of change is needed in your world?

-What kind of change would you like to bring to your world?

Pause.

BOOYAHH. CHANGE YOUR WORLD TOUR - it's coming up!

THIS IS IT!

hey everyone! we had our LAST DBS lesson this Saturday on Water Baptism! Some key things we learnt:

dId YoU KnOw?
the word "baptism" comes from the Greek word baptizo which means "to dip" or "to plunge" something into a fluid and then take it out again.

These are 7 cases in the New Testament about Water Baptism:

1. Jesus Christ Himself

In Matthew 3:13-15, we read that Jesus was baptized by John the Baptist (Jesus' cousin). John the Baptist was preaching a baptism of repentance for the remission of sins (Mark 1:4-5) Jesus had no sin to confess and did not have to repent from anything. WHY then was Jesus baptized?

The reason was because Jesus wanted to set an example of the baptism that He desired all believers to follow:

a) Jesus was never baptized as an infant. He knew both what He was doing and why He was doing it.
b) Jesus was baptized by the full immersion into the water. Going down into the water completely, and coming up out of the water.
Water baptism is similar to a wedding. It is a public declaration of an inward commitment.

2. The Great Commission (Mark 16:16, Matthew 28:19-20)

Jesus sent His disciples (us!) to all nations with this message: First, to teach the people. Second, to baptize them and third, to observe all things that He has commanded. This is the ORDER that we are to follow when we live out the great commission.

3. Peter on the day of Pentecost

In Acts 2:38, Peter told the people to repent and be baptized in Jesus' name for the forgiveness of sins. Here, we see that REPENTANCE comes before baptism.

4. Philip in Samaria
In Acts 8:12, people who believed in Jesus Christ were baptized, both men and women. Further down in the chapter, we read about Philip meeting an Ethiopian eunuch, sharing the good news of Jesus with him, and baptizing him later.

dId YoU KnOw?
Acts 8 has no verse 37! (It is actually in the footnotes because some manuscripts do not include it.)

5. Peter in Cornelius' house (Acts 10: 44-48)

6. Paul and the Philippian jailer (Acts 16: 29-33)

7. Paul and the "disciples" at Ephesus (Acts 19:4-5)

Christian water baptism is a response of a transformed heart that wants to live a life of obedience.

4 Conditions for Water Baptism

1. Repentance- genuine repentance
2. Faith in God
3. A good conscience
4. Becoming a disciple

You cannot be considered a genuine disciple until you are water baptized. But baptism is only a door into something greater! You need more thorough teaching and training to become true spiritual disciples of Christ. Strive to live a life like Jesus!

ARE INFANTS ELIGIBLE?
The 4 conditions above ruled out infants being baptized! Infants cannot repent, believe, answer with a good conscience, or become a disciple. Therefore, the answer is NO!

WHEN to be baptized?
In the New Testament Church, once a person believed in Jesus for salvation, he/she was immediately baptized.

Baptism was regarded as an urgent component of conversion, but always comes after faith!

Spiritual Significance of Water Baptism
As a sacrament, it is a means by which the grace and spiritual blessing of God flows through a believer. In Romans 5:20, 6:2, 3-5, Paul explains that the grace of God is not given to encourage us to sin even more. The grace of God is given to help us NOT to sin. For that to happen, we need 2 things:

1. DEATH: a death to sin and the old life
2. RESURRECTION: a new life lived to God and to righteousness

The way this transaction happens is through water baptism. At water baptism, there is an "official transaction" that you are "legally" identified with Christ in His death, burial, and resurrection.

Water baptism opens the door to a new realm of living with Jesus! You will begin to experience and encounter God in a brand-new way. A new grace comes upon you. All of these happen only through faith! :D

THIS IS IT...for now ;D! PRAISE JESUS!

Great job to all of you who went through the lessons! A BIG thank you to all our teachers, Daryll, Joanna, Chia Wen, and Sui Fai! :D

Lesson 9- Seven Erroneous Faith Teachings

31ST JULY 2010.
Sorry for the late post people. I'll just do a short one, coz it was a very long lesson...

1) Faith means you will never doubt.
Truth is -
a) We seldom experience pure faith.
b) Most of the time, faith does exist with some measures of doubt.

2) Faith means you will never use doctors and medicines.
Make Him your primary Source for healing..nothing else! :)

3) Faith means that you are never sick and healing will always come
It's a myth! [Act Consequence Theology]
No miracles, insufficient faith (paraphrased)

Check by the Word of God! People like Paul, Timothy, Trophimus, and Epaphroditus were godly men in the Bible who struggled with sickness.

4) Faith means never having to suffer in life
We live in an imperfect world. God allows sufferings for Christian maturity!

5) Faith means you can name and claim anything at will
-By God's will! [Everything happens]

6) The failure to distinguish between the logos and rhema.
-You should be able to tell the difference between the both by now!

7) The failure to understand the Sovereignty of God.
- He's the King of Kings and Lord of Lords, so He reigns. He decides what to do, when He wants and how he wants!! :)

Faith vs. Presumption

Faith yields to God's sovereign will, whereas presumption asserts self-will. Presumption is exactly like claiming a prophecy to be the Word of the Lord when it is not, and to overstep the Word of the Lord and do beyond what it says.

The cure for presumption.. how to avoid it?
-Line up ur faith with the whole counsel of God's Word.
-do everything you can in d realm of d natural.
-never impose ur faith on others.
-live at ur own level of faith.
-always remember, God's Sovereign!!
